Penistone Proms and Rock Concert - Sat. 9th June
The daytime 'Prom' and evening rock concert are now established as the pattern for the Saturday of Penistone Parade weekend, with the parade on Sunday. This year, the performers were Millhouse Green MVC, Churches Together and Jane Hobson in the 'Proms' and 3D (a Beatles tribute band formerly called 'Playskool') in the rock concert. It was a cloudy day but dry and pleasantly mild.
Penistone Parade and Gala - Sun. 10th June
Parade
The parade followed the usual route, starting slightly later than 1pm and was, as always, well received by the happy throng. Again, it started cloudy but became sunnier as the day progressed and was pleasantly warm. Firemen raised shrieks from the crowd as they sprayed water from the windows of the fire engine and lots of little kids scrambled for sweets thrown from the floats. As before, the parade was led by two police horses, followed by the current mayor. The theme this year was Space and Science Fiction.
There was a great swirl of sound from drums and other instruments and pretty girls from Razzmatazz Musical Theatre Company did somersaults to the delight of the crowd.
Gala - on the Showground
This had a funfair, jousting knights, hovercrafts, piano smash, tug-o-war, Penistone FM, inflatable kids, drums, trumpets, dogs, sun and fun. I took very few pictures at the gala.
