| Love the site, so informative I have learned more about the area from it than anywhere else. I would like to know about a photo on this site its the one of Romptical Crossing. There are two men outside the house, can anyone date the photo? If its in the right time frame they are my family, my ggreat grandfather and one of his son's. This would be the only photo of him I have ever seen. Much appreciated, Brynda | |

| I am doing my family research, and find that my great great grand father/mother ran the ''Rose and Crown '' that was from 1865-1875'ish there names were Joe & Susannah BYROM, they were there when the 'old' building was taken down and a new building took its place (abt 1868) IF anybody has photos of that building pre 1868 or info on my relations i would be more than happy to hear from them. On a recent visit there we saw inside an old photo of what we understood was the 'old' building standing proud was what we'd love to think was my ANCESTORS! can anyone comfirm this????? Great town i guess has'nt changed much since there time, GREAT SITE ALSO, well done | |

A nicely constructed site, excellent links. I wish I could fathom how to use more of the features of PSP7. Oh and by the way I use Firefox as my web browser. Pretty good, too.

| Hi Stuart...... and everyone I remember the vinegar labels you mention. They were, as you pointed out, bottled for the American Market. The HMS Cod, was produced with a netlon cover over it and I believe a tinfoil top. I must have known your mother, what is her first name ? E-mail: psmail@shaw.ca Web: www.members.shaw.ca/psmail From a rather damp Winnipeg, where 90mm of rain fell in less than an hour... and with rivers that are at danger level height. | Regards the vinegar brewery, my mother used to work there up until it closed. I am currently having a clear out of my home, and in the cabinet where she kept her trinkets and stuff, there are two bottles of vinegar that I presume are from there. They are definitely old, one is H.M.S. Cod vinegar, the other is 10 Downing Street vinegar, produced for H.M.S. Cod Inc, Palos Verdes, California. | |

| It's a while since I last posted here, so thought I would add a few words. Jack does a marvelous job with this site, keeping it topical, accurate and upto date. I used to say that I worked at PPMV and would love to hear from any ex-brewery folk, however since there has not been once response in over 2 years, I guess it was merely a dream. My interest in genealogy has continued here in Canada, and Sharon and I have a website that is connected to her Chaboyer family. It lacks some of the finess that Jack shows, but we do our best. It is also non commercial and we would be pleased if you spare a few minutes to take a quick look and maybe even sign our guestbook. To Jack, in appreciation of what you do for a town that will forever have a place in my heart. Peter www.members.shaw.ca/psmail | |

Some of the guestbook pages have vanished so I thought it was time to mention again that I worked at the Vinegar Brewery from 1970 until its closure in 1974. My father worked at David Browns during WWII and again in the early 70's, my daughter was at PGS. Although I never lived in Penistone, it became and still is a place of fond memories.

| The Schiedam Rockband "Penistone", to me brought alive the tòwn of Penistone. So to say, the band put this town on the map, in the Schiedam-area. I'm a little in to music too, and constructing a website for my Newtones, I gave a link to this band. (Penistone-Guitar-player Rien Schaap was a long time member of the Newtones, until the end of the millenium). Last week this link to the band Penistone was a dead one. Looking for something else to connect, I came across your site, with a statement the band has disbanded. So, giving me at least some internet page to link to, concerning both Penistone and Penistone, this time the town keeps the band alive, in a way. I.C.U. (If you don't see me first) Nils. | |

| Having visited Penistone on a number of occassions, in search of Stottercliffe Cemetry, and only having found it by consulting an Alan Godfrey reprint of a 1903 map. Why hide the entrance? The sign is so small anyone in a car must miss it? Does anyone know where Rose Hill is, it may have been the name of a house on Church Street, circa 1883. By the way I worked with a number of Penistonians at Sammy Fox's in the 1970 & 1980's. | |

| Good site John. Just been looking at your Thurlstone photos, I lived from 1971 to 1982 just over the wall from the pumping station at Hornthwaite, in the bungalow at the end of Prospect. Is there a class list to go with the photo of Thurlstone school infants? I reckon I have got an aunt & an uncle on there and it would be good to see if my guess of who they are is right. I played cricket for Thurlstone for several years and Eric Bradshaw used to score for us. | |

Unfortunately circumstances led to our move to the North West/North Wales, hopefully circumstances will one day mean a move back to Penistone for us both. The Britannia is the best Public House I have ever had the pleasure to drink in although there are a few in Penistone to offer competition. The Cinema is something to behold and something that everyone in the area should continue to do all they can to maintain it's place in the future. Thank you for providing this website. | A first rate website which helps to keep me informed about home. I was born in Thurlstone and went to PGS until 1968 when I left the area, university bound. I can give you some info on the pumping station pictures. I think that they were taken about 1958. The younger of the two chaps holding the pipe at the back is my father, Eric Bradshaw and that's the Landrover which he used to drive for Barnsley Corporation Water Works. If you see George Punt, ask him if he remembers when Eric stood for the local Council. George was my dad's agent! The older chap is Luther Heap who used to live down behind the Blue Ball/British Legion. The chap at the front in shirt sleeves and glasses is Tom Wadsworth who used to live at Belle Royd Farm. The black baby Austin was his. They were stripping out the old steam pump and boilers at the pumping station. I remember it well. My father took me round one Saturday afternoon after they had finished the job. I would be about 8 years old. Keep up the good work. PB

My wife and I will be visiting UK in September (we are originally from there)and hope to visit Penistone with one or two British friends.Do you know if there is in Penistone,a (self catering ?)static caravan available for rent for several days in mid September 2005.I have checked out all the possible sites I could find without luck and thought that as a "local" you might be aware of such a possibility. It doesn`t have to be anything fancy. We just need somewhere modestly priced to act as a base while we are hiking and visiting friends in the area. Thanks F
