Thank Yous
Lots of Support
Since starting this project on 23rd July 2000, I have found a lot of help and enthusiasm from local people. I would like to thank all who have helped me, but especially:
- All of those who put useful comments in the former Guestbook.
- Eskia Computers, Oxspring, for numerous instances of help over the years, especially by Duncan Mitchell and Emily.
- Janet Armitage, for the loan of some very good pictures in her dad's old photo album, scattered around the website. Janet's dad was Councillor Frank Ashton.
- Stephen Glover for the '4472' pictures in the railway section and some of Hartcliff Tower.
- Peter Lawford, for Vinegar Brewery pictures and information, frequent guestbook entries and for being generally helpful.
- Steve Tales, for Town Hall history and special access behind the scenes.
- Penistone Library ladies for their help.
- Darren Holmes, Station Director of Penistone FM for permission to use recorded sound clips and their logo (since removed due to lack of website capacity).
- David Mackrill, (Don Press) for help with Penistone Almanacks and old photographs.
- The late Frank 'Sam' Thacker, of the White Hart for loaning aerial photographs of the pub and some of its history.
- Paul Fieldsend for several photo scans which have been used on the website.
- Alan Shelbourn and Father George for access to the church tower and for their enthusiasm.
- Penistone Fire Service for letting me photograph their exercise at the old Fire Station.
- Dave Stuart for pictures of Dyson Cote ('Coit') Farm, Underbank and his dry wit.
- Ian Mitchell for an explanation of the Milk Pasteurisation process and other help.
- Carol Bradbury for notes about Spa Sunday.
- Tony Martin for corrections to the railway history.
- Josie in the Co-op store for old Penistone photos from the 1960s.
- Alan Beever for loaning various Penistone Almanacks and putting names to photos.
- Pat Crawford for names and details of various pictures.
- Christine Cooke for the loan of her school form photo.
- Steve Millwood for Vinegar Brewery pictures and information.
- Lynn Dean for some useful pictures and history of the Commercial in Thurlstone.
- Penistone Historic Archive for information received via its members.
- Councillor Brenda Hinchliffe for useful historical notes relating mostly to the 19th century.
- Madasafish ISP for 100MB of (nearly full) web space, a domain name and a fast broadband connection.
- Cllr Graham Saunders for his excellent ghost stories.
- Steve Lavender for his excellent 'Stories from the Stones' series, about notable graves and memorials.
- Stu Gibbins - For good conversations and some good historic church information.
- Richard Wright for historic stories and information, particularly his 'People of Penistone' series on various timeline pages.
- Penistone Archive and History Group for almanack and other historic material.
- Barnsley Council for generally obstructing Penistone's good fortunes, thereby leading to some wholesome verbiage on this website.
- All who have linked their websites back to mine. (I always give a return link, which boosts our chances on Google).
It has been a great pleasure to encounter the efforts of the above people towards this project.
And Finally
The biggest Thank You is to all of my thousands of website visitors. Without you there would have been no point in my doing this project.
